Frequently asked questions

What type of toothbrush should I use?

A toothbrush with soft bristles (electric or manual), medium or firm ones can cause damage to teeth and gums. Its best to use soft pressure, for 2 minutes, two times a day.

Does a rinse or mouthwash help fight plaque?

Using mouthwash will prevent bacteria build up in the mouth which, along with brushing and flossing makes for fresh breath. Children under the age of 6 shouldn’t use mouthwash as there is a risk of them swallowing it.

Do I really need to floss?

Yes, you really do, there’s no getting around it. Flossing clears food and plaque from between teeth and under the gumline, no amount of brushing will remove this food without floss.

What is a toothache?

Toothache is a common dental issue that many people experience. The pain often starts in your teeth and jaws, but it can come from elsewhere too, such as lost fillings or broken caps. Check out our first aid section to manage your symptoms while waiting to see a dental professional.

Can you rebuild tooth enamel yourself?

Toothpastes can never restore damaged teeth, but they help remineralize dental enamel. Fluoride is an ingredient that strengthens weak points in the enamel to some degree.

How do you heal a cavity without seeing a dentist?

Unfortunately, once the tooth structure has been destroyed the only way to fix the cavity is to have a dental professional assess and treat the tooth with a filling.

How do I treat a toothache at home?

To treat a toothache at home, first apply ice to the area of pain, then take the recommended dose of either Ibuprofen or Paracetamol. You can also rinse out your mouth with warm water mixed with half a teaspoon of salt, apply cloves or clove oil directly to the affected tooth. Please note that these options are only short term pain relief options.
