The Emergency Dental Care Roster

How it works

Each dental practice in Taupō takes its turn at being on this roster.

Part of the responsibility of being on the roster means triaging and providing dental treatment, after hours, for those that may be experiencing severe dental pain, infection, or have had a serious accident.

First Aid – What to do when you have suffered dental trauma

You’ve had an accident involving trauma to your mouth, now what? The following steps are advisory for temporary first aid but cannot replace expert dental advice or treatment. Please seek out professional dental care after following the below instructions.

1

Step One

Rinse your mouth out by gently swishing warm water and spitting it into a glass.

Check to see if any fragments have come loose and make sure you keep them.

2

Step Two

If you are bleeding then you will need to apply gentle pressure to the area with a clean cotton wool bud or a piece of clean cloth.

Keep the pressure for ten minutes, and if there is also swelling, use an ice pack and take the recommended dose of Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation of the area.

Step Three
